About the Confessional
There’s not much to this confessional online form. Type some text in, hit the button, and get back a random Bible verse. At one point, I tried to get fancy with a machine learning technique that tried to match submitted text to verses in the Bible and that actually returned worse (more boring?) responses than randomized verses from a random book. I also suck at machine learning, so that’s probably why that attempt failed.
What happens to the text I write?
Nothing. Once you hit the form button, the text is cleared from the text area and a function is called to grab a random book and some random verses.
What’s the point of this thing?
In the grand scheme of things, the online confessional is kind of like of taking a minute to smell the flowers – something to do to give you a minute to escape. In this case, the confessional lets you take a brief minute to compose a thought, type it out, and then discard it. I have found the act of writing down something that bothers me and then destroying that scrap of paper a useful tool in the many things one can do for mental clarity, and figured “why not make a silly website around that tool.” This is it.
