Dr. Seuss
The Catholic News Agency has “The story behind Pope Benedict XVI’s red shoes ”. It’s a quick read. In summary, a cobbler named Antonio Arellano who was originally from Trujillo, Peru, used to mend shoes for Benedict when he was a cardinal. At one point, Arellano opened a shoe repair shop by the Vatican. After seeing the new Pope on television, “Arellano said he remembered Benedict’s shoe size — 42 — and decided to give the new pope a pair of red shoes during a general audience at the Vatican.”
