Ever gaze at the beautiful hues clouds take on during a sunrise and sunset and wonder how? The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website has the explanation in their “The Color of Clouds” article . The two effects that cause us to perceive sky as blue (Rayleigh scattering) and clouds as usually white (Mie scattering) combine to give clouds those beautiful colors as the angle of the Sun changes during its rise and set.
