There’s an article at Atlas Obscura about Tom Brown, “the Appalachian apple hunter who rescued 1,000 ’lost’ varieties” of apples. In response to learning that heritage apples were nearly destroyed by urban migration, factory farming, and corporatized food systems, Brown found a new calling. “How neat would it be to find an apple nobody’s tasted in 50 or 100 years?” Indeed.
